Lovers of the Russian language celebrate its International Day, on the sixth of June of each year, and (UNESCO) has chosen the sixth of June, to celebrate the Russian language, coinciding with the birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander Bokshin (June 6, 1799 - February 10, 1837), who is considered the greatest literary in the entire continent of Europe, and is seen as the founder of modern Russian literature.

According to UNESCO, the Russian language is today a national heritage of Russia that unites hundreds of millions of people around the world, and Russian is an official language of the United Nations along with five other languages, spoken by more than half of the world's population: English, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish and French.

In addition, Russian is considered the so-called "working language" of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Russian is also an official language of the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and is declared a language of communication between certain nationalities in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The Russian language gives those who speak, master and learn the Russian language access to the heritage of classical and contemporary Russian literature, and to perceptive listening to Russian opera, theatrical performances, films, radio and television programmes.

The Russian Cultural Center in Damascus celebrates the Russian language. On this occasion, the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus organized an artistic concert that included the recitation of poems by the great poet Pushkin, on the stage of the Center.

During the evening, a variety of poems were read from Pushkin's poetry, which is characterized by drawing inspiration and interaction with reality, expressing the spirit of its time, and expressing the dreams of the simple man through his pride in the place, that is, the homeland, and his belonging to it, using symbols, linguistic connotations and objective equations.

It is noteworthy that Alexander Pushkin poet, playwright and novelist in the romantic era, considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and founder of modern Russian literature, was born on June 6, 1799 in Moscow and learned French from his parents, where he spent a lot of time reading from his father's library.
