One year of imprisonment, with suspended sentence, for road homicide: this is the penalty negotiated by the 47-year-old truck driver involved in the accident that cost Federica Picasso her life on 8 February 2021.

The thirty-five-year-old was driving her electric scooter, after accompanying her six-year-old daughter to school, when she was run over by the truck in via Monticelli in the Marassi district. The woman was wearing a motorcycle helmet, but her injuries were fatal.
After more than two years, the judicial case in criminal proceedings is closed, but the battle of the family members of the woman, who worked in a law firm, will continue in a civil court.

The insurance of the truck has in fact recognized a compensation even lower than 50% compared to what the tables on the subject establish. This is because, even if the Public Prosecutor's Office reiterated how the transporter did not maintain "the safety distance and an adequate lateral distance when overtaking, not adjusting the speed of the truck in such a way as to maintain control of the vehicle and be able to perform all the necessary maneuvers in safe conditions" according to what was reconstructed by the experts of the Accident Section of the local police, A previous manoeuvre to overtake the woman would have represented a form of co-responsibility. For the relatives, however, the proposal for compensation is inadmissible: not for economic reasons, but because it does not seem to take into account the seriousness of the tragedy, nor the responsibilities established.
