The Russian judiciary has threatened to impose a fine on the company running the Viber app for violating the country's cyber laws.

The Russian agency "TASS" pointed out that the judicial region 422 in Russia recently received a protocol from the Russian Supervisory and Consumer Rights Protection Authority, indicating Viber's violation of laws related to the Internet in Russia, and accordingly the company that manages it may be fined and charges of violating Internet laws in Russia were brought against the Japanese company Rakutan, the owner of Viber, according to the second item of the Penal Code in Russia, which is related to not removing prohibited content from the Internet in accordance with Russian laws.

Russia has also fined WhatsApp for not removing content banned under Russian laws.
