Violence is once again hitting the northern districts of Marseille. A man was shot dead in Castellas on Monday night, police sources and emergency services said.

The victim is about twenty years old, said the Marseille firefighters, called to the scene around 21:30 p.m., confirming the initial information of BFM Marseille Provence. The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police, said for its part the Prefecture of police of Bouches-du-Rhône.

A city already in mourning in April

The city of Castellas, in the 15th arrondissement of the second city of France, had already been mourned on the night of April 3, when two men aged 21 and 23 lost their lives, fatally wounded in a shooting.

The same night, two teenagers aged 15 and 16 were also shot dead in the Joliette district, in the port area, apparently victims of a killer ordered following the shooting a few minutes earlier cited Castellas. This supposed hitman, arrested three days later, is himself an 18-year-old teenager.

More than 20 drug-related deaths since January

The city of Castellas is one of the many cities in the northern districts of Marseille plagued by drug trafficking and the settling of scores between gangs at war to share a market that can generate up to 80,000 euros per day on the most profitable "stup plans". If this new homicide is indeed linked to drug trafficking, it would be the 23rd of the year in the Phocaean city in just over five months. Some 32 people had lost their lives in 2022 in the department, against a backdrop of drug trafficking.
