Peter Lord, Ari Folman, Ian Mackinnon, Altan and Bruno Bozzetto. These are the five axes of the new edition of Cartoons on the Bay, the festival of television animation, transmediality and meta-art created and directed by Roberto Genovesi for Rai Com which was presented today on Rai and which will take place from 31 May to 4 June in Pescara, in collaboration with the Abruzzo Region and the Municipality of Pescara.

The professional program is full of meetings including panels, Knote, masterclasses, which will feature the greatest Masters of animation, video games and metaverses. To Peter Lord and Ari Folman, respectively the signatures behind masterpieces such as Wallace & Gromit and Waltz with Bashir the Pulcinella Awards for Lifetime Achievement, to Ian MacKinnon, master of keys to Pinocchio's puppets, Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning masterpiece, the award as studio of the year and to the Cuphead phenomenon, between cartoons and video games, the new Transmedia award of the event. In Altan, the Sergio Bonelli Prize, which last year was awarded to Zerocalcare and Carlos Grangel.

Cartoons on the Bay confirms its formula that enhances Rai's teamwork involving Rai Kids, RaiPlay and Rai Radio Kids through live shows, events for the public and schools such as the Winx or Puppy musicals, the presence of the most famous mascots of the programs broadcast on Rai Gulp and Rai Yoyo and of the faces most loved by children such as those of Andrea Lucchetta and Armando Traverso, who will be accompanied by the now famous DJ of Rai Radio Kids. A real cross-media project will involve Rai Play which will exclusively host some parts of the festival program such as the retrospectives dedicated to Peter Lord and Ian Mackinnon and the special for the 140th anniversary of the first publication of Pinocchio by Collodi.

Among the guests most awaited by children also Pera Toons who will intervene in the program and sign copies of his latest book, and Giorgio Vanni with his concert on the most famous cartoon theme songs that will be able to entertain children, parents and grandparents together for an afternoon.

The highly anticipated preview of the film The Knights of the Zodiac scheduled for June 1 at 21 pm at the Cinema Massimo theater and the Fun & Games Village, where for the first time the festival will host a tournament of the famous Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. The poster of Cartoons on the Bay 2023 is entrusted to Monica Manganelli, set designer of Cloud Atlas and some of the most innovative and experimental theatrical works of recent years to which the festival exhibition is also dedicated.

Cartoons on the Bay 2023 will take place at the Aurum (professional program), at Piazza della Rinascita (public program) and at the Teatro Cinema Massimo (previews, retrospectives and titles in competition). Free admission to all activities.
