What could have been going on in the mind of Jack Bissell, 35, former chef? What could have led him to attack the house of actor Benedict Cumberbatch in London? The interpreter of Sherlock Holmes, his wife and their three children were at home when the individual broke down the iron gate of their garden. He then yelled, "I know you moved here. I hope everything will go crazy," it was reported to the court earlier this month.

The man pleaded guilty to criminal damages at Wood Green Crown Court on May 10 and was fined £250, or about 289 euros. He also received a three-year restraining order preventing him from approaching the actor's family.

Fish knife

The case had remained private until the Daily Mail called for the closed session to be lifted. We learn that Jack Bissell, who worked as a chef in a Mayfair hotel until 2020, plucked a plant and threw it against the wall of Benedict Cumberbatch's garden, before spitting on the intercom and tearing it out with a fish knife. The man fled the scene but was betrayed by his DNA left on the intercom.

A source close to Benedict Cumberbatch told the tabloid: "The family was obviously absolutely terrified and thought this man was going to come in and hurt them. Fortunately, things didn't go that far. Benedict and Sophie have spent many sleepless nights since, fearing they would be targeted again. »

Premeditated act

The prosecution told the court that before his attack, Jack Bissell bought two packets of pita bread from a nearby store and told the shopkeeper he was going to break into the comedian's home and set fire to the house.

Although he pleaded guilty, Jack Bissell gave no motive for the attack on Benedict Cumberbatch. It is only known that the chief had already been convicted of theft, had received three warnings for property offences, and had committed offences against public order and drug laws.
