The ninth Alpine Regiment L'Aquila includes Italian soldiers who were injured in serious clashes between NATO troops and Serbian demonstrators in Zvecan, in northern Kosovo. This was reported by the General Staff of Defense, confirming that the soldiers of the Italian contingent suffered injuries from trauma and burns due to the explosion of incendiary devices. The wounded, immediately rescued by the medical units of KFOR (Kosovo Force), are currently under observation by medical personnel who are ascertaining the conditions. The Chief of Defence Staff, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, follows the evolution of the situation through the Joint Top Operational Command and expresses closeness to the wounded soldiers and their families. KFOR units have been deployed since this afternoon in containing violent demonstrations in the four municipalities of northern Kosovo.
