Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, represented by the Arab Reading Challenge and the Madrasa platform, is participating in the 32nd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

The Foundation's participation in the exhibition comes in the context of its keenness to support education and culture, and encourage knowledge achievement, by displaying the content of the "Madrasa" platform, which is a pioneer in providing distinguished educational content in Arabic in science and mathematics subjects, available free of charge to more than 50 million Arab students. The Foundation's participation also highlighted the great importance of the "Arab Reading Challenge" initiative, and its role in enhancing the status of the Arabic language and enriching the Arab cultural scene, as it is the largest reading event of its kind in Arabic in the world.

Mission

Dr. Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, Executive Director of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, said: "Our participation in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair was an ideal opportunity to introduce visitors and those interested in the cultural movement to the content of the (Madrasa) platform, the achievements of the Arab Reading Challenge, its ambitions and future plans, and this is in line with the visions and objectives of the exhibition in spreading culture, encouraging reading, contributing to raising intellectual taste, and paying attention to the Arabic language as a synonym for our identity and civilizational personality."

He added: "Through this participation, we were keen to introduce the (Madrasa) platform and (Arab Reading Challenge), in an objective presentation style that blended traditional and modern means to deliver the idea to the widest possible segment, especially school students and the rising generations, and this is part of the Foundation's mission, and the Abu Dhabi Book Fair constitutes an important cultural and educational platform, and attracts every year large numbers of different age groups, cultural and intellectual institutions, which represents a gateway to cooperation and partnerships that contribute to the development of cultural and knowledge product throughout the Arab world."

Comprehensive picture

Through its pavilion at the exhibition, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives presents a comprehensive picture in an attractive way of the activities of the "Madrasa" platform, which includes about 7000,<> video educational lessons, exercises and applications in various scientific subjects, and works to create young Arab competencies who are scientifically qualified and capable of modern technology, in addition to supporting the Arabic language, and promoting its use by employing Arabic language video lessons through innovative and attractive means.

Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in 2018, the platform aims to provide quality education based on the latest international curricula in science and mathematics, and to develop integrated content in other subjects such as the Arabic language, in line with curricula adopted in the Arab world, and make it available free of charge to millions of Arab students, so that they can access it anywhere.

The role of a qualitative competition

Through its participation in Abu Dhabi Book, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives focused on the role played by the Arab Reading Challenge in motivating younger generations to read, and establishing it as a daily habit among participating students in dozens of countries around the world.

The Foundation presented to visitors several stations and achievements of the "Arab Reading Challenge", and documented the initiative's ability to attract tens of millions of students to participate in the competitions for the title of Arab Reading Champion Challenge, and provided an overview of the great efforts made by the work teams, tens of thousands of schools and reading supervisors, and the challenges that have been overcome during the past years.

The Foundation also provided an overview of the stages of development of the qualitative initiative and the increase in the number of participants every year, and its future ambitions to upgrade the cultural and knowledge scene in the Arab world, and provide everything necessary to enhance the status of the Arabic language, and help young people to increase their knowledge and culture, and enable them to create a bright future.

The seventh edition of the "Arab Reading Challenge" 2023, which began its qualifiers at the country level, recorded record participation, an increase of 11% over the participation of the last session, reaching about 24.8 million students from 46 countries around the world, while the number of participating schools reached more than 188,150 schools, in addition to <>,<> reading supervisors.

The "Arab Reading Challenge", which was launched in its first session in the academic year 2015-2016 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to enhance the importance of reading among participating students in the Arab world and the world, develop mechanisms of comprehension and self-expression in a sound Arabic language, develop creative thinking skills, enrich the knowledge content available in Arabic, and enhance its position as a language of thought, science, research and creativity.

Great successes

The "Madrasa" platform achieved great successes, and was able to attract more than half a million views of videos per week, while the five most watched countries for the platform respectively are: the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Tunisia. The number of views in the UAE exceeded one million hours of views, the number of views exceeded 100 million, while the number of subscribers to the platform exceeded 3.5 million.
