Canadian actress Samantha Weinstein, who played high school girl Heather in the 2013 remake of Kimberly Peirce's "The Look of Satan - Carrie," has died at the age of 28.

Weinstein died May 14 at Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital after battling ovarian cancer for more than two and a half years, her agent James Crammond told The Hollywood Reporter today. A photo was posted on Weinstein's Instagram page, with the caption: "After two and a half years of cancer treatment and a lifetime of jet-set traveling around the world, giving voice to a plethora of cartoon animals, making music and learning more about life than most people will ever do, She left for her next adventure."
Weinstein is survived by her sister Sabrina, husband Michael Knutson, and parents David and Jojo Weinstein.
Born on March 20, 1995 in Toronto, Weinstein had a prominent role playing a young girl, Josephine, in "Big Girl", which won the award for best Canadian short film at the Toronto Film Festival in 2005 and won the 10-year-old actress the Actra trophy for best actress in the same year.

She also played the role of Brooke in the independent drama film "Reign" (2015) and the role of a young Hagar in the adaptation of Margaret Laurence's novel "The Stone Angel" (2007) by director Kari Skogland, also starring Ellen Burstyn and Dylan Baker. He appeared in the films "Siblings", "The Rocker", "Toronto Stories", "Nat and Eleanor's Secret", "Haunter". Weinstein's television credits include roles in director Vincenzo Natali's "Being Erica," "Angry Angel," "The Other Grace," "Copper" and "Darknet." She has also carried out an intense dubbing activity, also for animated series. Weinstein also made a name for herself as the songwriter and lead guitarist for the Toronto garage rock band Killer Virgins.
