The dispute with a student now has a legal aftermath for the mayor of Glauchau in Saxony, Marcus Steinhart. The district court of Hohenstein-Ernstthal had admitted the indictment and opened a main case against the CDU politician, the court said.

Steinhart are charged with bodily harm, insults and threats. However, it will take a while before the trial itself – the date has been set for 1 November.

The reason for the investigation was a conflict between Steinhart and a classmate of his son last August at a school in Waldenburg. The CDU man had admitted the dispute in a statement on Facebook.

According to the report, two classmates had inflicted on his son for months, with "hardly imaginable insults and humiliations". When he confronted the main actor, the physical altercation ensued.

He had acted as a horrified father who wanted to protect his son, and regretted the incident, Steinhart had emphasized. He has only been head of the Glauchau town hall (Zwickau district) since last summer.
