A three-year-old boy was hit by a train in Bremen and fatally injured. The child had been reported missing in the morning by his family, the federal police said.

A few hundred meters from the family apartment, the boy was traveling alone and ran from a gravel path onto the track. There, the Regio-S-Bahn of the Nordwestbahn ran at about 120 kilometers per hour. The train driver saw the child only a few meters before. He braked, but was unable to prevent the accident.

The train came to a halt on a high railway embankment. Therefore, the approximately 100 passengers could not get off, but had to wait until it was possible to continue their journey to the main station after more than two hours.
