The prefect of Gard, Marie-Françoise Lecaillon, signed an order allowing the use of a drone equipped with a camera, in order to strengthen security during the Pentecost Fair. The event, which runs until Monday in Nîmes, attracts more than a million people each year over the four days of celebration.

"This large-scale festive event, leading to a high concentration of people in the city center of Nîmes, requires the mobilization of all appropriate resources for the safety of people and property as well as the prevention of attacks on public security," explains the representative of the State.

Anti-bullfighting demonstration banned

To justify the use of this camera, the prefecture recalls the delinquency facts recorded in recent years: brawls, sexual assault, driving under alcohol and drugs, throwing projectiles on public transport, vehicle damage in particular.

In addition, the prefecture has banned the demonstration, scheduled for Saturday late afternoon, of anti-bullfighting. They launched an appeal on social networks to mark their opposition to the bullfighting shows that take place throughout the weekend in the bullring. On several occasions in recent years, similar demonstrations have ended in clashes with the police.
