In Lyon, and in its agglomeration, a drone will soon be deployed to fight against urban rodeos, revealed this Thursday the prefecture of the Rhône, encouraged by the results recorded since the beginning of the year. In the past four months, 60 vehicles have been seized by authorities. That's three times more than last year at the same time.

The cooperation set up with social landlords and the work undertaken by the anti-rodeo unit have proved effective, she said. "The use of a drone will make it possible to follow the vehicles without engaging in chases, which can be dangerous, and to know where they will park," explains Fabienne Buccio, prefect of the Rhône.

The use of drones by law enforcement to combat urban rodeos has been authorized since a decree dated April 19. The association for the defence of constitutional freedoms had referred the matter to the Council of State in order to suspend this decree. But his request was rejected earlier this week.
