Recovered a diamond ring she lost in the bathroom 13 years ago

A woman who lost her ring in the bathroom 13 years ago managed to recover it, following a local campaign by the city council to find the owner of the diamond ring.

The story began when 75-year-old husband David Strand, 71, gifted her a beautiful diamond ring to celebrate their thirty-third wedding anniversary.

But the woman's bad luck was bad when the ring slipped off her finger in the bathroom.

Mary believed she had lost the precious piece forever until just a few weeks ago when she received a call telling her that the ring had been found more than 13 years later at a water treatment plant just a quarter of a mile from her home.

The story of Mary's lost ring – and its stunning rediscovery last week was shared by the Metropolitan Council.

Mary tried to find the ring so many times that she dismantled the house's sewer pipes, but to no avail, and with time Mary lost all hope and accepted that she would never see her ring again. But in March, three sanitation workers found the ring while trying to repair a machine and then began a week-long public campaign to find the owner.

Hundreds of calls came from families who lost something and yet the descriptions never matched.

It was only after David's daughter saw the story of the ring through a letter board in the neighborhood that she alerted her parents, telling her mother, "It must be your ring."

Mary called the city council official the next day, but 13 years after losing the ring, she couldn't remember exactly what it looked like, so she sent a photo.

To the surprise of city officials, the ring matched perfectly. Two jewelers then confirmed that the ring was the same and compared Mary's odds and reuniting with her ring to winning the lottery.
One goldsmith said: "The odds here were astronomical."

On Wednesday, the woman went to the Metropolitan Council to recover the ring lost since 2010, in the presence of photographers and district officials.

Mary, who was very happy, confirmed that she suffers from the problem of losing rings constantly, but she will be careful not to leave this ring out of her sight again.
