The raid was carried out on the night of 17 to 18 May, while the main suspect was returning from the Netherlands. As part of an investigation into ketamine trafficking, five men aged between 25 and 42 were arrested on the A1 motorway between Lille and Amiens and in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine. The investigations had started at the beginning of the year following an anonymous tip "implicating an individual appearing to direct a trafficking of ketamine from the Netherlands and Belgium to the Rennes region," said in a statement the departmental group of gendarmerie of Ille-et-Vilaine.

After several weeks of surveillance, investigators were able to determine "the modus operandi of feeding and refueling narcotics put in place by this person."

95 gendarmes mobilized on the operation

During the operation, which mobilized 95 gendarmes, including PSIG and GIGN teams, more than 20 kg of ketamine were discovered in the vehicle of the main suspect and in the homes of the other defendants. 745 grams of cannabis, 252 grams of cocaine, ecstasy and MDMA tablets, more than 9,000 euros in cash and three weapons were also seized.

At the end of the police custody, three of the suspects were referred to the prosecutor's office. Two of them were remanded in custody pending trial scheduled for 10 July, while the third was placed under judicial supervision.
