A person was killed in a bomb explosion he inherited from his grandfather

An Indiana man died after a grenade he had inherited from his grandfather exploded.

According to a post from the Lake County Sheriff's Department, officers responded to the call of the explosion last Saturday night in the Four Seasons Lakes community.

The explosion occurred while the victim's family was searching for their grandfather's belongings, including the bomb.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said in a statement: "Someone reportedly pulled out the device pin and the bomb exploded."

In addition to the person's death, the two children of the man and an 18-year-old woman were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

According to the FBI, a number of families in the area found improvised explosive device bombs on the property of their parents or grandparents who were military veterans, with some of them as veterans bringing explosives as souvenirs from World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War.

Authorities demanded that anyone who finds a grenade or other explosive ordnance should stay away and call emergency services immediately.
