A single mother in Ulsan abandoned her child years ago during the pre-convocation process for elementary school freshmen.

Today (23rd), the Ulsan Police Agency announced that Mr. A, who is suspected of violating the Child Welfare Act (abandonment, etc.), has been sent to the prosecutor's office without detention.

Mr. A is accused of abandoning Miss B, who was about 100 days old, at a Buddhist place in the Ulsan area.

Mr. A's crime came to light in January when his child was not identified at a preliminary call to an elementary school in Jung-gu, Ulsan.

At that time, the school asked for the whereabouts of the child and the police launched an investigation.

The investigation revealed that Mr. A had abandoned his child many years ago, but until recently he had received government child support allowances.

He is also known to have made inconsistent statements about whether Miss B was alive or dead and where she was abandoned.

Police have sent the case to the prosecutor's office after investigating with the local child protection agency and the abandoned area, and a police official said, "We cannot provide further details about the case."

Meanwhile, the Ulsan City Office of Education said in January this year that it had investigated five children who were eligible for the preliminary call for new elementary school students for the 1 school year, whose whereabouts were not known, and that four of them, except for Miss B, were children from multicultural families and confirmed that they had left the country.
