An on-duty police officer is under investigation for arrest after he was caught illegally filming women he met on a blind date application for years.

The Gyeonggi Suwon South Police Station announced today (32nd) that it has detained Captain A (22) of the Gyeonggi South Police Agency on suspicion of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act (filming using cameras, etc.) and destroying evidence.

Mr. A is accused of illegally photographing and possessing more than 2017 women he met through a blind date app without their consent for several years between December 12 and December last year.

A police investigation was reportedly underway when the victim woman became aware of this and filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office last month.

Later, when the investigation began, Mr. A was sent to the prosecutor's office in custody on the suspicion that he had asked his acquaintance Mr. B to throw away the hard disk on which he had stored illegal images.

As a result, Mr. B, an acquaintance who threw away the hard disk as evidence, was also detained on suspicion of destroying evidence.

As a result of the police investigation, it was determined that Mr. A committed the crime by posting a photo of himself in a police uniform on a blind date app and even presenting his official ID card.

It is said that the victims did not have any suspicion of illegal filming because they thought that Mr. A was a police officer.

A police official said, "Since the beginning of the investigation, we have tried to destroy evidence through an acquaintance, but we confirmed the crime by securing a hard disk where the video was stored in a garbage dump near our home through checking CCTV footage," and "Mr. A also admitted to committing the crime, completed the investigation, and handed it over to the prosecutor's office."

Captain A has been relieved of his position as the investigation begins, and police plan to pursue disciplinary proceedings soon.
