With more than 1300,85 exhibitors from more than 500 countries presenting more than 32,28 titles, the <>nd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ADALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), kicked off yesterday under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and will run until May <> at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

The current edition, which was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, is the largest in the history of the exhibition, in terms of area and the number of cultural sites hosting more than 2000,<> cultural, literary, knowledge and artistic events.

H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited a number of local, Arab and international pavilions and publishing houses participating in the exhibition, including the pavilion of the Republic of Turkey, which is the guest of honor at this year's edition, in recognition of its efforts in promoting the literary and artistic movement, and its leading role in the publishing industry. His Highness also met with a number of publishers who contribute to promoting the spread of the Arabic language across the world, through several cultural initiatives.

Cultural Experience

This edition of the exhibition is exceptional, given the size and diversity of its events, which provide a distinctive cultural, artistic and literary experience that meets the aspirations and interests of visitors of different tastes and age groups, thus contributing to consolidating Abu Dhabi's position as the capital of the book, and a beacon of cultural and intellectual radiance.

The seven-day fair will welcome visitors to six different cultural sites, including the Cultural Foundation, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Sorbonne University, New York University Abu Dhabi and Logos Hope, the world's largest floating book fair, currently anchored at Mina Zayed.

Turkey, the guest of honor of the exhibition this year, offers an integrated program to introduce its culture, literary colors and fields of knowledge, within a special pavilion that hosts many events and seminars that discuss cultural exchange between Turkey and the Arab world, and ways to enhance dialogue between them, in addition to lectures and sessions that take visitors to the pavilion on a journey through the history of Turkish literature, Arabic and Turkish poetry, and literary translations between the two languages, and give visitors the opportunity to participate in dialogues and seminars on several topics.

Philosopher's achievements

The exhibition celebrates the achievements of the 14th-century Arab philosopher Ibn Khaldun, the founder of sociology, as the "central figure" of this cycle, through historical, philosophical and literary discussions focusing on his works and heritage.

The exhibition chose the concept of "sustainability" as a central idea for its 32nd session, in line with the UAE's declaration of 2023 as the Year of Sustainability, and ahead of hosting the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) next November, as it dedicates seminars and dialogue sessions on activating sustainability in its comprehensive concept in various fields, such as climate and food security, and discusses ways to enhance youth awareness of achieving sustainable development.

The exhibition program includes various events in the fields of culture, creativity and knowledge, including more than 130 sessions in the cultural program, in addition to a series of dialogue sessions, seminars, and literary, cultural and intellectual evenings with the participation of more than 800 guests and speakers from the most prominent writers, thinkers and pioneers in various fields.

The Black Box Cinema program continues with screenings of some of the most beautiful films.

In the sky of imagination

Abu Dhabi Book Festival has introduced the "Alpha Corner" in its new edition, which provides interactive activities that enrich the knowledge of its visitors in the fields of space and science, with the aim of enhancing interest in science and culture among future generations, and developing their creative skills. Children and young people will enjoy more than 1800,<> educational and entertainment activities in various artistic and knowledge fields.

This year, the exhibition also launched the Hogwarts – Harry Potter Festival, which provides fans of the Harry Potter film series with an exceptional experience that allows them to explore the aesthetic meanings of the iconic landmarks of the famous film series, as well as various activities that travel them through the sky of fantasy within the Harry Potter films, as well as the opportunity to meet their favorite Harry Potter characters. The pavilion witnessed a large turnout of children and school students who visited the exhibition.
