Homs-Sana

The documentary film "Abu Arab", which talks about the heroism of the Syrian Arab Army, was screened today at the Life Skills Hall of the Cultural Center in Homs, which is conceived, prepared and scripted by Yazid Jarjous, and directed by Omar Jarjous.

The film, which is shown for the first time, tells the story of the heroic policeman Hatem Arab, nicknamed "Abu Arab", who wrote with his colleagues the most wonderful stories of heroism in defending the walls of Aleppo Central Prison, which was besieged for years by armed terrorist groups, and the feelings of hope and confidence in victory and grief over the loss of comrades in arms and families.

In a statement to journalists, writer Yazid Gergous stated that the idea of the film was inspired by one of the heroes of the garrison of Aleppo prison, "Hatem Arab", who provided a model to be followed in love of the homeland and sacrifice for it, and the idea was launched after his discharge from the hospital to his village Al-Zara, to which he returned after the martyrdom of his family at the hands of armed terrorist groups that wreaked havoc and death in the village before the Syrian Arab Army liberated it in 2019.

Gergous explained that the hero's will, exceptional determination and love for life and the homeland prompted him to document his heroism, which is one of hundreds of heroic stories, thanks to which we were able to withstand and continue, pointing out that filming took place with mobile phones since 2021, the moment of their first visit to the hero Arabs, and continued until the end of 2022.

The hero Hatem Arab pointed to the feelings of sadness he felt the moment he saw the picture of his family who were martyred during the entry of armed terrorist groups to the town of Al-Zara, where he has not been able to see them since 2011, stressing that the Syrian Arab Army regained the village and eliminated the terrorists and forgot his injury.

He explained the importance of these documentaries in documenting the heroism of the brave Syrian Arab Army, who gave their most precious possessions for the sake of keeping the homeland free and proud.

Hala Ahous, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Martyr Foundation and Director of the Valley Office, pointed out that the hero Hatem represents a people with their strength, dignity and belief in hope and the future, and that the defense of homelands is through deeds.

She pointed out the importance of documentary films in shaping the history, future and present of the country, because without the sacrifices of the martyrs and the wounded, we would not have been able to withstand and defeat the terrorists, pointing to the role of civil society institutions in supporting the families of the martyrs and the wounded and providing them with what is necessary according to capabilities.

The film was produced in collaboration between the Yazid Gergous Foundation for Development and the Homs Police Command.
