With the participation of Syria, the 76th session of the World Health Assembly will begin tomorrow in Geneva and will continue until the 30th of this month, and the agenda of the session includes axes related to the work of the World Health Organization in the field of health emergencies, strengthening its preparedness and response, and the topic of universal health coverage, in addition to presenting the issues previously raised by the Executive Council of the Organization.

In a statement to SANA, the head of the Syrian delegation, Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabbash, pointed to the importance of participation, especially that the health challenges facing the world highlighted the need for international collective action to develop health systems, to be more flexible and ready to respond with high efficiency, especially during crises and emergencies.

Dr. Al-Ghabbash expressed his hope that the outcomes of these meetings will contribute to strengthening health systems, explaining that the Syrian delegation will meet on the sidelines of the Assembly's work with many delegations, to discuss the efforts made to enhance joint cooperation, which will reflect positively on the health reality in Syria under the current circumstances.

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of WHO, attended by delegations from all Member States, and its agenda prepared by the Executive Board focuses on specific topics in the field of health.

It is noteworthy that the World Health Assembly unanimously elected Syria in May 2021 during its seventy-fourth session to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization, representing the Eastern Mediterranean Region for a period of three years.
