We've been waiting for it for a long time, and Blur (finally) did it! After a first announcement of reformation at the beginning of the year, it is a new great return of the quartet led by Damon Albarn, on hiatus since 2015. The British group of Boys and Girls has unveiled a first track, The Narcissist, before a new full album, The Ballad of Darren.

This new opus is the first since The Magic Whip, released eight years ago, and which itself broke a silence of... Sixteen! According to Pitchfork, this new disc will include ten previously unreleased tracks. Each member of the group described in a few words this new adventure. "It's a backlash record, a reflection and commentary on our current situation," explained Damon Albarn, the band's charismatic leader, who is involved in many side music projects.

For guitarist Graham Coxon, "The older and the more crazy we get, the more we need what we play to be charged with the right emotion and intention. Sometimes a simple riff is not enough."

Long-term relationship

Dave Rowntree, the drummer, said: "It's always very natural to make music together. Every time we record a record, the process reveals something new and we evolve as a band. Nothing is ever taken for granted. »

Finally, bassist Alex James said, "For a long-term relationship to be meaningful, you have to be able to surprise each other, and that's what we continue to do."

Blur will be wiping the casts for this new album at home, in the city of Colchester, Essex, on May 20, before a few festival dates in Europe including Les Vieilles Charrues and Beauregard in France, as well as Primavera Sound, in Barcelona.

The Ballad of Darren is scheduled for release on July 21 on Parlophone.
