It is a tourist route in the Jura, the RD436 known for its many belvederes and switchbacks... but also its ravines. Thursday, the motorist at the wheel of a van converted into a motorhome made a fatal road exit in Septmoncel-les-Molunes, reports France 3 Regions.
The partially charred vehicle was found in the gorge, 300 meters below the road. The emergency services had been called shortly after 8 am by the road services of the agents of the departmental council of Jura. The latter suspected the exit of the road. Access being difficult, the rescue has deployed significant resources, including a drone, more than 20 firefighters and a Dragon helicopter.
The vehicle was thus found in the river, at the bottom of the valley very difficult to access. The victim was found dead near the van. An investigation has been opened by the prosecutor's office of Lons-le-Saunier to understand the origin of this fatal accident.
