Firefighters intervened in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) Thursday, shortly before 5 am, to come to the rescue of a woman who gave birth in the street. She had called them explaining that she had just "given birth alone on the public road," explains a source close to the case to the Parisian.

When help arrived, the newborn was stuck in his mother's pants. He was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Firefighters tried to resuscitate him, without success. The baby was declared dead at the scene by a doctor from the Samu. His mother was then rushed to the hospital.

Investigation initiated

The woman told firefighters she did not know she was pregnant. But once questioned by the police, "she did not wish to answer them on the facts," says the same source to our colleagues. An investigation has been opened to try to determine the precise circumstances of the events. The investigations were entrusted to the Nanterre police station. The body of the newborn will undergo an autopsy. His mother will be auditioned.
