These are the bereaved families who lost their children in the Itaewon disaster last year.

[I was a high school student, and I was involved in the wiretapping until the end, and I sacrificed myself.]

I came to Gwangju for the first time to share the pain of the loss of my family members and to show solidarity with the bereaved families on May 5.

[Ahn Young-seon/Itaewon tragedy's family: When I came here, I felt very sad because I knew that you must have had a very difficult time for a long time. It should never happen again.]

Mr. Woo Won, who was the first member of Chun Doo-hwan's family to visit Gwangju in March to apologize, also came back to Gwangju yesterday to pay his respects at the May 18 graveyard and make rice balls with his mothers.

Today, I visited Chonnam National University, which remains a vestige of the May 5 uprising, and repeatedly expressed my apologies.

[Grandson of Mr. Chun Woo-won and the late Mr. Chun Doo-hwan: I think this is where the spirit of May begins, and I am very grateful that I can be in Gwangju with you on this day, and I am also very sorry.]

The citizens of Gwangju welcomed Mr. Wu Wen with beaming faces.

[Oh, it's pretty, it's beautiful.]

[Volunteer for the May 18th Commemoration Ceremony: The meaning of this day is from pain to joy. Mr. Chun Doo-hwan's grandson came and washed away the pain of our city.]

On the other hand, they harshly criticized the "surprise visit" by the Special Forces Comrades' Association and other comrades' associations that have sprung up over the past year, as well as Supreme Council Member of the People's Power Kim Chae-won's remarks
about "opposing the recording of the 3 May Constitution."

[Kim Do-young/Gwangju Buk-gu: As someone who saw my friend die in front of my eyes, I don't want to admit it.]

Regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's commemorative speech, he expressed regret that he did not have the will to find out the truth on 5 May, but [Jang Hye-won/Jeonnam Mokpo: I think it is a pity that the most important point is missing,

like eating steamed buns without red beans.]

For the second consecutive year, the President's attendance at the Memorial was generally positively evaluated by the May 18 Bereaved Families Association.
