Hollywood legend Harrison Ford, who came to present the world premiere of Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny at Cannes, received Thursday evening a Palme d'or of honor before the screening of the film.

"I am deeply touched by this distinction," said the 80-year-old American actor, visibly very moved, after receiving the award from Thierry Frémaux, the general delegate of the Festival.

In announcing that the fifth part of the adventures of the famous archaeologist would be shown on the Croisette, the organizers had indicated that an "exceptional tribute" would be paid to Harrison Ford, without further details.

From "Star Wars" to "Blade Runner"

A figure in Hollywood cinema, he has played a wide range of characters, from Han Solo in the Star Wars saga to Blade Runner, the adventurer with the hat and whip he has played since 1981 and the first episode, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theaters in late June.

Tom Cruise, who came to Cannes last year to premiere Top Gun: Maverick, also received a surprise Palme d'Or before the screening of the feature film. This year, another big name in American cinema, Michael Douglas, 78, received the same distinction on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the Festival.
