A 30-year-old man has been fined for spreading false posts and personal information on social media, including a "family of cat abusers."

Chuncheonji Law's Wonju-won Criminal Division 2 (Head Park Hyun-jin) announced today (30th) that it has sentenced Ms. A, a woman in her 50s, who was accused of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation), to a fine of 18,6 won.

On June 19 last year, Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of slandering and defaming Mr. B's family by posting personal information and family photos of Mr. B, Mr. B's parents, and sister on his social media account, and falsely stating that he was a "family of cat abusers on a TV program."

According to the indictment, even though Mr. B's parents and sister had never engaged in cat abuse, Mr. A allegedly referred to Mr. B's parents as "domestic abusers . . . Corpse disposal team," and described Mr. B's sister as "the greatest abuser in the family."

During the trial, Mr. A's side argued that "there was no purpose to slander him because he saw a post posted by another person and believed it to be true, and he copied and posted it in the public interest."

However, the court rejected Mr. A's argument that there was a defamatory purpose in releasing Mr. B's family photo when there was nothing in the accompanying video of the cat abuse that accompanied the post, suggesting that Mr. B's family members participated in the abusive act.

In fact, it was confirmed during the trial that Mr. B's sister suffered from mental distress, such as a phone call to her workplace asking if "this is where the abuser's family works" and having a veterinary box delivered to her home because of Mr. A's posts, which listed her workplace and the apartment building and lake.

Accordingly, the court said, "The victims were face-to-face and dishonest simply because they were members of the family of Mr. B, who was said to be a cat abuser. Blindness · Workplace · Address · Family relationships were exposed, and they suffered considerably."

"The defendant openly revealed falsehoods without any effort to verify or verify the authenticity," he said, "but the sentence was set in consideration of the fact that he shared someone else's post and immediately deleted it, and the justification of the purpose of the act of preventing cruelty to animals."
