You may remember the incident last year when a woman was indiscriminately assaulted by a man she didn't know while returning home from Busan. In the first trial, only the charge of attempted murder was applied, but the appellate tribunal's own examination brought up the possibility of a sexual offence.

Reporter Kim Sang-min covered it.

In May last year, a man in his 1s chased a woman who had no knowledge to the front door of an officetel and indiscriminately
assaulted her.

The perpetrator, Mr. A, carried the unconscious victim on his shoulder and slipped into the CCTV blind spot, where the victim's jeans were down to his pelvis and his zipper was partially open.

A record of Mr. A's search for keywords such as "rape" during the escape process was also confirmed during the investigation.

However, the perpetrator's DNA was not detected on the victim's clothing, so only the charge of attempted murder was applied to Mr. A, and the court of first instance sentenced him to 5 years in prison, excluding the conviction of a sexual offense.

[Mr. A/Perpetrator (last year): I only slapped him, and I knew from the judge that my jeans were down and the zipper was open....]

Then, in the appeal last month, witness testimony against the first complainant and the police officer who responded to the scene brought the possibility of a sexual offence to the spotlight again.

Yesterday (30th), the court personally examined the jeans that the victim was wearing for about 1 minutes, and based on the victim's statement and the characteristics of her clothes, it was determined that the jeans could not come off on their own.

[Nam Eun-ho/Victim's Advocate: They were jeans with characteristics that went up much higher than the pelvis, and the buttons were fastened not only at the zipper but also at the sides with straps, so if it wasn't by an external force....]

The prosecution said it would consider changing the indictment after considering the results of the jeans test and DNA re-examination.
