A mother and her two children have been found dead in their apartment in Herten, North Rhine-Westphalia. Police officers found the 37-year-old and her five and eight-year-old daughters on Tuesday evening, as the Recklinghausen police and the Bochum public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, a homicide squad is investigating.

The 35-year-old partner and father had not been found at home. He had been arrested "after intensive search measures" in the early morning in Marl. It will be examined whether he is responsible for the act.

An acquaintance had informed the police because the Turkish family had not been available for a long time. Officers then drove to the apartment and found the dead. An autopsy of the bodies should provide information about the cause of death.
