A babysitter in her 50s, who worked for a local government contractor, was arrested on suspicion of abusing a 17-month-old child.

Yesterday (16th), the Daejeon Police Agency announced that they had arrested Mr. A, a child caregiver in his 50s belonging to the local government, on suspicion of abusing the child he was caring for (violating the Child Welfare Act).

Ms. A, a woman in her 8s who has been in charge of the victim for about six months since August last year as a member of a consignment company designated by the Daejeon East District, is suspected of committing more than 6 abusive acts against a 50-month-old girl.

From the end of December last year to January, Mr. A committed acts such as tripping the child on more than 17 occasions, which were captured on CCTV in the house.

In the video, Mr. A can be seen lying down and knocking the child over with his foot, and covering the crying child's mouth with a blanket.

Earlier, it was reported that the parent, Mr. B, had installed CCTV in the house because he thought the child's behavior was abnormal, and then became aware of Mr. A's abusive behavior.

While filing a child abuse report with the police, Mr. B said in an interview with MBC, "I never dreamed that I was such a person. Every time I come in (the house), I'm like, 'My dog, my dog,'" she said, adding, "I really don't know how people have so many two faces."

During the police investigation, Mr. A denied the allegations, saying, "I admit that I acted excessively, but I did not deliberately abuse him," and it is reported that he has now written a letter of resignation and quit his job at the contractor.

The police have determined that Mr. A has violated the Child Welfare Act and will send him to the prosecutor's office.
