The translucent sheet attached to the window of the convenience store, why did this happen?

This is because of the National Health Promotion Act and the Tobacco Business Act, which stipulates that cigarette advertisements inside convenience stores should not be seen outside the window.

The idea of not showing cigarette ads was good, but it was pointed out that it threatened the safety of people working in convenience stores.

It's hard to even know what's going on inside a convenience store from the outside.

[Kim Jee-woon, Secretary General, National Association of Convenience Store Franchisees: When you have a problem, you come in and help you and ask you what's going on, but because your eyes are blocked, those things become impossible, so you become scared and threatened.]

In February, a convenience store owner in his 2s was murdered at a convenience store in Incheon by a man in his 30s wearing an electronic anklet, further increasing the anxiety of convenience store employees.

There have also been complaints that the translucent sheet paper is causing employees to feel extremely closed and mentally stressed.

The State Affairs Coordination Office has responded to the demand for continued improvement in the convenience store industry.

After consulting with convenience stores, the tobacco manufacturing industry, as well as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, it was recommended to remove the translucent sheet paper and replace it with anti-smoking advertisements.

[Son Dong-gyun, Chief Policy Officer of the State Affairs Coordination Office: The idea is to remove the sheet paper that currently covers the exterior walls of convenience stores so that workers can work in a safer environment, and to offset the problem of tobacco advertisements being exposed to the outside with anti-smoking advertisements.]

The State Affairs Coordination Office said that the Ministry of Health and Welfare will provide anti-smoking advertisement designs on the theme of youth smoking cessation, and that the convenience store headquarters will be in charge of producing and attaching advertisements so as not to burden convenience store owners.
