Motherhood is not necessarily obvious to all women, and Madonna took advantage of Mother's Day, celebrated Sunday in the United States, to share the doubts that have marked her personal journey. The one who didn't want children... had six in total. But the loss of her mother, when she was five, took her away from the idea of having children for a long time.

"I miss my mom every day and have fantasized for decades about having a mom to turn to for help, advice, care and wisdom. I rejected the idea of being a mother into my thirties because I associated motherhood with sacrifice, suffering, and even death, and I didn't want any of that. All my role models were radical women like Frida Kahlo, Martha Graham and Georgia O'keeffe. Great artists without children! " she justifies.

A liberation

"When I finally became a mother, I was amazed at how grounded I felt, but also stunned and confused about how I was going to find the balance between being a good mother and an uncompromising artist... I went through many years half-blind and made a lot of mistakes along the way. All mothers know that there are no manuals or rules to follow. You have to dive in and get by," the Material Girl continues.

Today, Madonna is a peaceful mother. "Saying I'm proud of my children may sound arrogant or imply a sense of ownership. Better to say that they are all bright stars and that I am happy that their souls chose me as a mother," she wrote.

In the photo gallery that accompanies this long message, the singer of Like a Virgin is staged with her six children: Lourdes, 26, Rocco, 22, David and Mercy, both 17, and her twins Stella and Estere, 10. His post ends with a moving tribute to his mother, Madonna Louise Ciccone, who died in 1963: "I hope your grandchildren bring you joy!"

The Madonna: The Celebration Tour kicks off July 15 in Canada.
