Two men have been indicted in the investigation into the murder of Jean-Christophe Mocchi, a business leader killed in June 2022 in Propriano, (South Corsica) said Tuesday the prosecutor's office of the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Marseille.

"Two people, referred Monday, were indicted," said the prosecutor's office of the Jirs of Marseille, seized of this judicial information, confirming information from Corse-Matin. The first person was for "homicide in an organized gang with premeditation, concealment in an organized gang of robbery in an organized gang and criminal association for the commission of crimes," said the prosecutor.

Family affair

This is Appien Coti, a 33-year-old restaurateur from Propriano, son-in-law of Toussaint Mocchi, the cousin of the victim, said a source close to the case. The second person was indicted "on charges of criminal association for the commission of crimes and carrying a category B weapon", according to the prosecutor's office, which specifies that both were placed in pre-trial detention.

According to the same source close to the case, it would be Théophile Mondoloni, 24, manager of bakeries in Sartène and Propriano. "Two other persons referred were placed under the status of assisted witness," the prosecutor's office also said, adding that a total of nine people had been taken into custody in this investigation, including two extracted from detention.

He was shot dead in June 2022 at a bar in downtown Propriano. He had already been the victim of an assassination attempt in October 2021, targeted by shotgun fire in Olmeto-Plage, South Corsica, while riding a motorcycle. Joseph Mocchi, 34, the son of Toussaint Mocchi, cousin of the victim, was indicted in July 2022 for this assassination attempt.

An attempted fire had also targeted, in June 2021, the Gedimat store of Jean-Christophe Mocchi located in Sartène. The same month, "impacts from a firearm had been found on his real estate agency located in Propriano," said the Ajaccio prosecutor's office.
