A young Nigerian chef spent 100 hours without interruption preparing different types of food with the aim of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous cooking session.

Hilda Bassey, a chef in the city of Lagos, captured the hearts of Nigerians with a cooking marathon that began on Thursday and ended on Monday evening.

President Muhammadu Buhari and several politicians and celebrities congratulated Bassi as fans cheered and camped outside an event centre to watch the 27-year-old chef prepare a variety of local and foreign meals, from golf rice to pasta and acara cakes made from bean flour.

The current Guinness World Record for the longest uninterrupted cooking session is held by Indian chef Lata Tondon, who continued cooking for 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.

Guinness officials will have to check the time Bassey spent cooking until it becomes official.
