"Unforgettable 30 Minutes" in the Dean's Office

In March, Group A enrolled in the Taekwondo Department of Mission Studies at a private university in Busan. I was accepted to other universities, but I chose it because of the good faculty and the encouragement of those around me that I had many opportunities to go abroad. My parents were so happy about the news that they offered to buy me a car right away, and I was an ordinary newbie who listened hard to class, excited that I had become the college student I dreamed of becoming a student in Group A. However, on March 3th, just two weeks after the start of classes. Troop A will receive a call that the department head is looking for them. I was asked to interview him because he had failed to attend the department worship service twice. But when I entered the professor's office, the dean's rant began. The verbal abuse and threats continued for about 2 minutes. The transcript file recorded by Group A from the middle contained the voice of the day.

"Aren't you supposed East Sea to act like a person XX, this XX" "
If you act like a beast XX, you should treat him like a beast, right? It's XX like a stone's throw away."
"Don't be scared, don't be afraid of this XX, step on the real XX.
If you come to school and act like this, you will step on it. "

"I'm going to step on it," is the head of the 8th Dan Taekwondo department. Party A was deeply shocked and afraid. But that wasn't all. The head of the department designates a church in Jangsan in Haeundae, which is one hour away from A's house, and tells him to attend the service every week and take a photo with the pastor and send it to him. In the transcript, these words are repeated again and again.

"Don't be late for the 11 o'clock service on Sunday. After the service, the pastor just took a picture and sent it to me. Got it?"
"Eleven o'clock. I just went there and said hello to the pastor. Just show the professor the picture you took of the pastor."
"Am I supposed to call my mom and tell her not to give a damn about it?
If you don't, you'll be smashed by the professor."

Group A is 18 years old. Even if you're a college student, you're a newbie. I'm still a young student. Unable to speak back, Group A left the department chairman's room crying.

"The professor said he didn't swear."

The parents requested an interview with the dean of the department shortly after they found out about this, but the dean denied that he had ever said such a thing. Instead, he said to Group A, who came with his parents, "Did I really say that? What are you going to do if you don't tell me that?" He said he was pushed. What disappointed Troop A even more was the attitude of the school. We informed the president's office, but they didn't move.

I tried to get the professor to step down from his position as head of the department, but that was it. There was no full investigation or the convening of a disciplinary committee that the victim wanted. The head of the department still holds the title of director of external cooperation. The school did not listen to the transcript file that Troop A had, nor did it contact the family to verify the facts. "The professor didn't swear at me, he apologized," was all the family heard at school. Faced with the need to attend the department chairman's class every week, Troop A eventually dropped out of school.

The professor who "did it to correct the child's attitude"

SBS asked the professor about the story related to the incident. The professor said he was saddened by the misunderstanding. It's true that I raised my voice, but I didn't show up often at department events with excuses such as that my child was usually sick, so it was just a matter of guidance. I added that it was something I wouldn't have done if I hadn't been interested. He said that the reason he forced me to go to church was because he had to believe in Christianity due to the nature of the "Taekwondo missiology department."

Group A abandoned taekwondo

A has been practicing taekwondo since he was 6 years old. Party A's house is full of awards and medals that he has collected since he was a child. However, Group A gave up taekwondo because of this incident. This is because the professor in question holds several key positions in the taekwondo world. There are 9 athletic-related titles listed in the faculty bio section alone. In the narrow world of taekwondo, A is discouraged that he will not be able to escape the professor's breath.

"Taekwondo is the only thing I've ever done. I loved Taekwondo so much and
I was thinking that there was only one way, but
this is how it goes. I don't know where to start because I have to throw away everything I've been doing and
start anew."

After leaving school, Group A spends most of their time at home. They say they can't do anything, and they're scared to meet anyone. Taekwondo was the world of Group A. The university I wanted to do better at broke A's heart.

A full-fledged investigation has begun... A full investigation should be carried out

The family has filed a complaint with the Center for Sports Ethics, and an investigation is ongoing. The Yeongdo Police Department will also begin an investigation into the matter soon.

"If it hadn't been for the recording, I don't think anyone would have believed me."

As the school stood by what happened in the educational institution, the damage may have been even greater. There needs to be a clear investigation to prevent the repetition of abusive language and threats against students in the name of educators.
