The firefighters of Finistère intervened shortly before 18:30, Sunday, to rescue a freediver. Called by witnesses, the rescuers discovered the body of the lifeless man on the surface of the water off the beach Grève Blanche, in Plouguerneau, a popular place for scuba diving enthusiasts. Aged 70, the freediver was brought to the ground but could not be resuscitated despite the intervention of firefighters. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the maritime prefecture that supervised the rescue operations, the man practiced spearfishing in apnea. Sea conditions were beautiful on Sunday with a light wind and calm seas.

At the end of April, a freediver died in the same area during a sea trip in the neighboring town of Landéda.
