While Coldiretti counts the "incalculable damage" on crops throughout the country caused by the storms and hailstorms of the last hours, the forecasts are not reassuring.

A large depressionary area, with a center of action positioned between France and Sardinia, characterizes the conditions over the Mediterranean area, triggering a flow of warm-humid south-western currents rising from North Africa towards the Balkans, causing a first worsening of weather conditions over part of Italy.

On the basis of the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved - which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned - has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the different areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities that are reported, in a national summary, in the national bulletin of criticality and alert available on the website of the Department
(www.protezionecivile.gov.it).

The warning foresees, from the early hours of today, Sunday 14 May, scattered to widespread rainfall, even in the form of showers or thunderstorms, over Lazio, Campania, Molise, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, possible hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.

On the basis of the current and expected phenomena, a red alert and orange alert on part of Emilia - Romagna have been assessed for today. A yellow alert was also assessed in Veneto, Lombardy, Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania, Molise, on the entire territory of Umbria and on the remaining sectors of Emilia-Romagna.

The "incalculable damage" according to Coldiretti

Thunderstorms and hailstorms have caused 'incalculable damage' throughout Italy to the crops of fruit, vegetables, sunflowers, barley and wheat up to the olive trees and vineyards of Chianti. This was noted by Coldiretti, which has drawn the map of the effects from Piedmont to Puglia.

"

The fall of hail in the countryside is the most harmful in this seasonal phase for the irreversible losses it causes to crops in the fields on the eve of harvest, sending a whole year of work up in smoke", notes the agricultural organization in a note.

Weather alert also in Puglia, Lecce and in the province after the rains of the last hours and the increase in gusts of wind. And it is precisely because of the dangers deriving from the strong wind that for today, with a 'yellow' weather alert, the local police has communicated the closure of city parks due to the risk of falling trees. These are Villa Comunale, Parco del Galateo, Campo Montefusco.

Discomfort for the strong wind instead in Sicily, in Messina. A truck, at kilometer 141 of the A20 Messina-Palermo, in the direction of the city of the Strait, overturned on its side, occupying the roadway, near the junction of Tusa, near one of the many tunnels in the route.

The landslide on the provincial road 104 in Ferrazzano, at the gates of the Molise capital Campobasso, worsens with heavy rains. The detachment of a large portion of land compromised a wall of the house, forbidden for safety reasons, and the viability: the road was closed to traffic by order of the mayor Cerio and the emergency vehicles intervened on the spot to verify the situation. Residents of the area are currently unable to use the sp 104 to go to work or for other needs. Monitor neighboring homes that could be affected in the event of further landslides. The municipality of Ferrazzano announces that "the situation is under control and work is being done to restore the road as soon as possible, but at the moment nothing can be done, except to guarantee the safety of residents".
