In the stunning opening sequence that opened the final of the Eurovision Song Contest, Princess Kate Middleton of Wales surprisingly appears.

Sitting at the grand piano, she plays a passage of "Stefania" together with the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra, which won the competition last year.

The cameo was recorded in secret in the Crimson Drawing Room at Windsor Castle earlier this month. Behind the scenes of the performance was shared by the Welsh princes on their Twitter account.

"It was a pleasure to join the Kalush Orchestra in a special performance," the post reads.

Dressed in a stunning blue dress by Jenny Packham, which echoes the color of the Ukrainian flag, Princess Kate wears the earrings that belonged to Queen Elizabeth who publicly supported the war-torn country before her death.

At the beginning of the conflict, he had asked to plant yellow and blue flowers in Windsor Castle as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.

The behind-the-scenes video begins with footage of Windsor Castle by drone. Then the smiling princess is shown preparing for the performance.

Kate met Olena Zelenska, the Ukrainian First Lady, during a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace on the eve of her coronation last week.

It is not the first time that Kate Middleton plays the piano in public, she had already done it, with Tom Walker, in a Christmas concert in 2021. He also said that the passion for the instrument is shared by Princess Charlotte who is taking lessons, while Prince George is studying electric guitar.

The Kalush Orchestra won last year's Eurovision Song Contest, so normally this year Ukraine was supposed to host the event, which was moved to Liverpool in the UK, runner-up with England's Sam Ryder in 2022, due to the conflict.

However, the show opened with a tribute to the country where the winners performed the song Stefania at the iconic Maidan Nezalezhnosti metro station. To them are added, in addition to the Princess of Wales Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ms Banks, Ballet Black, Bolt Strings, Joss Stone and Sam Ryder himself.
