Actress Jameela Jamil could very well have appeared in the last season of You if she had not simply refused to pass the casting. As she explained to Penn Badgley, the star of the series, during an episode of the podcast Podcrushed, the actress did not want the role because it involved sex scenes.
"My character was supposed to be pretty sexy, so I turned down the audition, because I'm so shy about anything sexy that I can't [play that stuff]," the Good Place star explained.
And it was only well after, when the train had already passed, that she learned that Penn Badgley had demanded that Sera Gamble, the showrunner of the series, limit the number of intimate scenes in the fourth season. Jameela Jamil then understood that she had really missed the boat.
If I had known...
"And then you get there and you say, 'Well, I don't do sex scenes anymore.' But I didn't even know we could put that limit," Jameela Jamil said. "I thought I should have done this damn show."
Anyway, You returns to Netflix for a fifth and final season, which will conclude the macabre journey of Joe Goldberg, the most romantic of psychopaths.
