No banners unfurled, no slogans chanted. For the duration of the Cannes Film Festival. From 16 to 27 May, a large part of the city centre will be affected by a decree "prohibiting demonstrations on public roads". A measure justified by "the need to guarantee public order on the occasion of this event of exceptional magnitude of an international character," develops the text signed Thursday by the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes Bernard Gonzalez.

The services of the State indicate to 20 Minutes that this decision is "not related to the current social situation", confirming statements published by France 3 Côte d'Azur. "This is an order made every year," adds a spokeswoman.

Threats of power cuts

The mobilization against the pension reform was nevertheless well integrated into the security equation of the authorities. Questioned by AFP, Jean-Claude Geney, sub-prefect of Grasse, in charge of coordinating the device, explained at the beginning of the week that "particular attention will be paid to possible gatherings of people". The representative of the State also says he is aware that "we may have additional sources of work compared to last year".

The CGT Energy has already threatened the event with giant power cuts. The union warned that "the Cannes Film Festival" as "the Monaco Grand Prix, the Roland-Garros tournament, the Avignon festival could find themselves in the dark".
