One of the two investigations opened by the Grenoble prosecutor's office last July is progressing. A 22-year-old man has just been arrested in Spain in the case of attempted murder of a police officer, suspected of being the armed passenger of a scooter whose driver had been shot dead by the police in Grenoble in July 2022, said Eric Vaillant, prosecutor of the Republic, confirming the information of the Dauphiné Libéré.

In the same case, the other investigation, entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) on the facts of "fatal blows", is still ongoing. The parents of the slain driver had filed a complaint against the perpetrator.

Background

On July 7, 2022, a 24-year-old man who was riding a scooter with an armed passenger was killed by police in downtown Grenoble. The driver, wearing a bulletproof vest, was travelling with a passenger armed with a "long gun". The latter pointed his weapon at police officers, who fired twice, hitting the driver, a police source said. The passenger had fled. A "loaded Kalashnikov-type weapon" was found at the scene.

The man arrested in Spain, suspected of being this passenger, was under an international arrest warrant, according to the Dauphiné Libéré.
