A 5 billion-year-old "meteorite" penetrates the roof of a house

A family in the US state of New Jersey reported that a strange object fell on the roof of their home last week, sparking talk of a "possible meteorite"

Susie Cobb said she found a hole in the roof of her father's home in Hopewell, New Jersey, and later turned out to be due to what appeared to be a meteorite falling on the house.
Cobb said there was no one in the house at the time, and as she moved between debris and plaster boards, she found a metal rock in the corner of the room.

Franklin Institute chief astronomer Derek Bates said it could be 4 to 5 billion years old and may have survived since the beginning of the solar system.

"He's been orbiting in space all that time, and now he's reached Earth and fell directly into the house, but for a house to actually hit and people can pick it up, that's really unusual. It has happened a few times in history."
