Public service competitions attract fewer and fewer people and the lack of full teachers in primary schools has been particularly felt in Seine-Saint-Denis. In 2022, the department was that of the academy of Créteil which recruited the most contract teachers, reports Actu Seine-Saint-Denis, this Thursday. They now represent more than 7% of the total workforce.

An upward trend

Contract teachers, exempt from competitions but not civil servants, were already in high demand for several years in Seine-Saint-Denis but were particularly so in 2022. There are currently nearly 900 in the department, 200 more than initially announced. By way of comparison, Val-de-Marne has 342 contract workers and Seine-et-Marne 256.

According to the rectorate of Créteil, these figures should be even higher at the beginning of the next school year since many contract workers will be hired. They should also benefit from a better salary and an extended training period.
