Shots were fired at the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen on Thursday morning. One person was killed and one seriously injured. This was confirmed by the Ludwigsburg police on Twitter in the morning. The perpetrator was therefore arrested. There is no longer any danger to the employees in the plant.

The police had previously confirmed an operation on the factory premises, but immediately emphasized that there was no danger to the population.

A spokesman for the group confirmed the operation, but did not want to comment on further details. Initially, it remained unclear whether they were employees of the company. The group plans to comment on further details later today.

35,000 employees in Sindelfingen

This is not the first incident of this kind at the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen. As recently as February 2022, a driver had broken through the barriers of a factory gate, rammed vehicles and knocked over bollards. After that, the driver is said to have threatened the police officers called for help with a knife.

According to reports, a police officer fired a shot at the time, injuring the perpetrator in the leg. The perpetrator was then taken to a psychiatric hospital.

The Mercedes site in Sindelfingen is one of the largest and most traditional plants of the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer. According to the concern, the plant has been in operation since 1915, initially as an aircraft factory, and since 1919 cars have been manufactured in Sindelfingen.
