Some 121 people who showed symptoms of food poisoning after eating food at the franchise snack restaurant "Cheongdam-dong Witch Gimbap" and filed a lawsuit for damages have partially won.

The 17th Civil Division of the Suwon District Court (Chief Judge Maeng Joon-young) issued a ruling on the 2th that "the defendant must pay alimony to the plaintiff" in a lawsuit filed against the company and franchise owner by 121 plaintiffs who showed symptoms of food poisoning after eating salmonella-contaminated kimbap at two franchise snack restaurants "Cheongdam-dong Witch Gimbap" in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si.

The court ruled that the defendants should pay alimony of 10 million won each to the plaintiffs who received inpatient treatment out of 121 and 200 million won each to the plaintiffs who received outpatient treatment.

The 100 plaintiffs filed a lawsuit for damages claiming that from late July to early August 121, two merchants experienced symptoms of food poisoning after eating kimbap and other food, and two restaurants detected salmonella, the cause of food poisoning, in cooking utensils such as cutting boards.

The court cited the importance of food safety as a nationwide Kimbap franchise store and franchise store, and the fact that it was located in an area with a large flow of people and exposed to risks because many people could eat.

The court said, "There were a number of victims in family units, including infants and pregnant women, minor victims, and elderly victims," and that it "accepts the plaintiffs' claims as they are and accepts the defendants' responsibilities heavily."
