The villain in Rocky IV took a hell of an uppercut... but takes the blow admirably. In the American show In Depth, Dolph Lundgren, who, in the ring, makes Sylvester Stallone put a knee on the ground, revealed that he was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2015.

After an initial treatment, the actor had no more symptoms. He was still following routine visits and one of those exams, at a doctor's office in his native Sweden in 2020, changed everything. The news is that tumours have been found in his kidneys and liver.

Above all, he is told that he is terminally ill with cancer and that he has only "two to three years to live".

Mind of steel, cancer in the strings

But the actor did not let himself be dismantled. "I've had a great life. I lived five lives in one. I didn't feel bitter, I just felt sorry for my children and my fiancée [Emma Krokdal]," the 65-year-old said.

Fortunately, the news is much better three years later. Far from admitting to being a loser, Dolph Lundgren managed to gain life expectancy points. After a new treatment in Los Angeles followed during the filming of the films The Expendables 4 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom the tumors were almost knocked out, reduced for some up to 90%.

The star still has to undergo surgery. "I hope the medications I'm taking will remove everything else... I just appreciate the chance to be alive," added Dolph Lundgren.
