Dismembered legs and heads in the middle of a totally clandestine sheep chain. On Wednesday, municipal police and health inspectors dismantled an undeclared farm and slaughterhouse on public land in Nice, the town hall announced. These illegal facilities, which "did not meet any standards" and even less "health requirements", still housed five lambs and four sheep still alive who were placed, also said the municipality.

The municipal police were able to trace back to the site in question, a plot belonging to the Public Land Establishment, after being alerted in the morning. The meat was sold "on the sly" in the market of Les Moulins, a sensitive district in the west of the city, by the holder of a bench of fruits and vegetables.

The town hall takes legal action

The mayor of Nice has already announced that it will "report to the public prosecutor on these serious facts, which will trigger an investigation to determine the responsibilities of each".

In the meantime, the nine recovered sheep have been sheltered. "The municipal police have mobilized the van of its equestrian brigade to allow the transport of these animals to a suitable care center where their state of health can be evaluated," said Christian Estrosi, denouncing "an unworthy and unacceptable situation".
