A 16-year-old girl has been killed and nine other people injured in a knife attack in a Polish children's and youth home. The 19-year-old suspect was caught, said a spokeswoman for the police on Wednesday of the German Press Agency. The crime occurred on Tuesday around 23.00 clock in the town of Tomislawice in the Lodz region.

The investigators' initial findings show that the 16-year-old let the attacker into her room through the open window, a police spokesman told Polsat. Subsequently, there was a quarrel, a kindergarten teacher from the night standby rushed to the girl's aid. "The kindergarten teacher was also injured. When the 19-year-old ran away from the home, he blindly attacked other people he met on the way," said the police spokesman. The 16-year-old resident succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Five injured were hospitalized, they are not in mortal danger. According to police, the two teenagers had been a couple for some time. A conflict in the relationship is considered the most likely motive for the crime.

The police arrested the suspect after the crime at his place of residence nearby. The 19-year-old was sober at the time of the arrest, it was not a resident of the children's and youth home.
