From our Special Envoy in Liverpool (United Kingdom)

We knew it was going to be butchery. The first semi-final of Eurovision 2023 which took place on Tuesday at the M&S Arena was the one at the highest level. Fifteen artists were in the running for one of the ten tickets for Saturday's final.

As expected, the favorites, the Swedish Loreen, whose Tattoo is streaming hit, and the Finn Käärijä at the insane Cha Cha Cha Cha held their rank - it would not be surprising to find them on the podium in a few days... Alessandra, for Norway, also qualified with Queen of the Kings, allowing a full Nordic card for this first half.

Croatian punk and Portuguese energy

Originality paid off for Croatia. The punk band Let 3, which stood out more for its outrage than for its accuracy, will also be in the game on Saturday. Ditto for Serbia and the dark and nightmarish universe mixed with video game aesthetics of Luke Black. The Portuguese Mimicat, she was able to rely on her enthusiasm and energy to win the support of the public. The group Vesna, which represents Czechia, with its feminist anthem and perfectly controlled scenography, is also qualified.

Switzerland's Remo Forrer, one of the strongest male voices of this edition, will also be in the final, as will Israel's Noa Kirel and Moldova's Pasha Parfeni.

On the other hand, the public was less sensitive to the duo of Azerbaijan on which no one bet a kopek. Their Euro-visionary adventure ends here, as does their counterparts in Ireland, the Netherlands, Latvia and Malta.
