From the world of the sea and its strangeness and treasures of knowledge, Sea Zone Radio was launched from Port Rashid in Dubai, to be the first of its kind in this unique field over the air.

The radio broadcasts to listeners a range of programs that come from the deep sea, ranging from maritime weather forecasts, to literature and local heritage related to the sea world and its traditions, as well as broadcasting songs and plays, to suit different segments of society and nationalities.

The CEO of Sea Zone, Amjad Tohme, told Emirates Today that "Dubai loves the number one, and gives its residents the sense that everything new must be presented, hence the passion for launching this radio, with the possibility of expanding further in the next stage."

He added, "Sea Zone Radio began personally through the parent company of the same name, which specializes in the manufacture and maintenance of boats and ships and everything related to the sea, and its owner, Jamil Al-Qara, decided to launch the radio, to provide everything related to the sea world through it, and the idea crystallized after I met him after 30 years of separation, as we were together in school."

He added that by virtue of his experience in establishing radio stations or supervising their renewal, he supervised the launch of "Sea Zone", starting from the preparation and reservation of the "server" for broadcasting via the Internet until the launch, pointing out that it is possible to listen to the radio "online" and through the application.

Tohme saw that the most prominent feature of this radio station is its unique orientation in the world, as the material is dealt with through the connotations of meaning, not only from the sea directly, so a set of programs were developed that express the meanings of this world, and the musical situation was synthesized to be also commensurate with the sea.

The radio station is full of a range of programs, in addition to the marine bulletin that is presented daily about marine weather conditions related to waves, tides, water, wind and others, according to Tohme, who said that what supports the idea of radio more is that television cannot be seen - often - on ships and yachts, and therefore listening to the radio is more desirable.

Experimental broadcast

Regarding the cycle of special programs, the Executive Director of the radio noted that they still consider themselves in the experimental broadcasting stage, despite exceeding it in the stability of the programmatic situation, the marine bulletin, and certain times for some types of broadcasting.

He explained that any program cycle they test the listeners' response to it, as well as with music, and the theme that the radio opens the programs has been tried with, and it has been installed on the buzuq machine, and there is a special language for the bulletin, as well as fixed times.

He pointed out that the radio broadcasts in the morning the songs of Fayrouz, and at night there are paragraphs Tarab with the planet of the East um Kulthum, and that during the evening broadcasts radio plays, and tended to produce its own programs, including: «sail and storm», and «wave useful», and «whale», specialized in providing marine creatures, and «beautiful words», as well as the marine bulletin.

Tohme stressed that these programs require great effort, whether at the level of recording and directing or even presenting them through social media platforms.

Key challenges

As for the main challenges facing this color, Tohme considered that the most prominent of them lies in the fear of flattening in the first place, especially since everything that is offered on the planet tends to give stardom to what is superficial, in addition to the fact that what faces radio is the unique specialization, as much as it is rich, it may sometimes be incomprehensible to many.

"At this stage, any media platform may face challenges balancing between seriousness in providing good and profitable content and continuity, in addition to funding challenges, as well as single work (One Man Show) that has become essential in the media field," he added.

On the possibility that specialization limits the audience, Tohme said: «From here begins the game of how to present the self, it is necessary to realize any radio or station how to market itself to a large segment of people in order to get a remarkable segment of listeners, and the radio may attract the audience, as it tends to suggest meaning and not only to the direct concept of the sea».

• Brings listeners a range of programs that come from the deep sea, from weather forecasts to the local heritage associated with this world.

Amjad Tohme:

• "Dubai gives its residents the sense that everything new must be presented, hence the passion for launching this specialized radio."

• "We turned to producing our own programs, including: Sail and Storm, Useful Wave, and The Whale, which specializes in providing marine organisms."

«Ramsa Yum» Emirati

The sea is an essential part of the UAE's culture and heritage, so Sea Zone Radio has a lot of coverage of the UAE that witnessed the launch of this ether. Amjad Tohme said that "the largest share of radio programs is for the UAE, and a lot of coverage of various marine events and boat shows has been transmitted throughout the country."

He pointed out that there is a program that has begun to be broadcast, entitled "Ramsa Yum", which carries many stories related to the life of the sea in the UAE.
